I hate my birthday. I am not entirely sure since when but it has been the case since forever now. Obviously, when I was a kid all the shenanigans and parties were done for most of my birthdays. The reason that I have come to understand for me hating birthdays is the constant attention on me on that day. I hate being the centre of a crowd’s attention. Even the thought of cutting a cake with everyone staring at me is giving me anxiety. Not my cup of tea!!! I love celebrating birthdays of my loved ones and pamper them to bits. I try to make all of my friends and family feel loved on their birthday. While I don’t mind the pampering on myself either, I hate the attention that comes with it. Just send me gifts, don’t wish me or ask me to cut the cake π. My birthday tradition is either me having a normal work day or me taking a vacation. There is no in between. Taking this further, my partner celebrates his birthday next month and if it is not clear yet how exactly opposite we are, here is another proof. Below is him sharing about his birthday tradition.
Who doesn’t like their birthday (ME, DUH!). Gifts, parties, special treatment and what not. You just can get away with anything on that day. I still have fond memories of my birthday parties when I was a child (thanks to all those photographs). My parents used to call all my school and society friends for a house party where we would have games, music and food. Also, the most important part, GIFTS, lots and lots of them. That was also the day you wouldn’t wana miss school. You were allowed to wear your casual dress instead of the uniform and get some amount of special treatment no matter how mischievous a student you were. Distributing chocolates among your classmates and teachers in their staff room and getting to be out of the class for just 10mins for the same was some feeling.
As I grew up celebrations changed. I still remember the first time I went out with 3 of my society friends for dinner. And since I started earning its mostly celebrated partying out with friends. However, one thing has always remained constant. I have always cut a cake at home along with my parents on my birthdays. Something that my mom always ensures and has become a habit for me as well.
Hmmm, so that’s us sharing our birthday traditions, what is yours?
Yep.. youβre weird. πjk
Social anxiety sucks.

Absolutely not. I just hate being the centre of attention in a group. I am really good with one on one meets or being in a group where the attention is kinda spread out, i am not sure if you understand what am saying?

Yes maβam. I do. Youβre good as long as you arenβt the center of attention. Iβm kind of the same. Iβm not a Type A personality! One on one and especially if the person understands me is best.

“Just send me gifts,”. π€£π€£π€£π€£. I am much like you, as I don’t wish for the attention on my birthday but I love showing my loved ones with attention when it’s their birthdays. I think You are very funny as you don’t want the birthdays but just send me the gifts. Lol. If you haven’t informed friends and family of your wishes then it’s time to do so. But if you don’t inform them then you must graciously accept their attention so they can shower you with their love.

Hahahah I mean I like getting gifts now, earlier even that seemed unnecessary! π I do inform my partner or parents about the options! But even if I din, I CHERISH AND LOVE EACH AND EVERYTHING THAT HAS BEEN EVER GIFTED TO ME β€ the caps is to just emphasize love! π

Haha π I am much like your partner in this one…. like all the 364 days of year, I am like “did I camouflaged properly π€ can people still see me…ππ but on my birthday, the inner diva just burst out of me and I am like this whole freaking day I am gonna feed on attention or I will die π π π

Hahaha. I am sure the inner diva is always there, even when camouflaged. You will shine, no matter what. You deserve all the attention, birthday or not β€

I have never liked celebrating my birthday always made me feel anxious. And hated being focused on. But I would. I always loved planing it for others.

Yay. Same same pinch. My Birthdays are pressuring for me. I run away. Planning for others is a chance to show love and I grab it with gusto just like you π

My birthday is in August so I spend it in the water either at the neighborhood pool or at a beach. Sometimes family and friends join me but a few times I have gone alone because it is my birthday and I get to do what I want!

Yessss. I do like the part where we get to do what we want!!!! In my case, that means nothing haha. But I love the pool idea!! π

I just felt smiling by reading your awesome post
I also hate celebrating my birthday and I think it’s just the worst day of year for me because unwanted attention is given to us and generally ignored when we really need some one π

Oh wow. Even I am surprised, Aparna!! Not many people feel the way we do so I am glad to have a comrade π. Yes, such a valid point that people ignore us when we might need them but on birthdays we have unnecessary attention. Spot on!

I’d have to say I relate more to your lobster in this case…birthdays are for good food, cakes, gifts, pampering and feeling special. ππ

Oh no!!! Hahahah but I can see why, I have not come across many people who hate their birthdays π I’d love the pampering from afar. Don’t meet me yaar, not together anyway. One on one celebration is great!!!

My birthday consists of a normal day, pretty boring really, this year i started my blog pretty much on the same day, 5 days later i started on wordpress, so my blogiversary is 5 days after my birthday and will be 1 year old on the 7th of February haha

Ooooh wow. You’d have something to look forward to on your birthday then π such a nice clash! Two celebrations! You must celebrate with your son, that’ll light up your day π

Yes, exactly. That is my whole problem with it, I am amazed when people revel and love their birthdays because it does not come easy to me.
